Embellishments takes music into school

Since limited funding for education has caused music and arts to be discontinued in many schools, Embellishments has felt the need to be pro-active in trying to fill some of the void.

Last school year, members of Embellishments, sponsored by Better Basics, went one morning a week to North Roebuck Elementary School and taught three sessions of music to a total of 66 students.  Using handchimes, the students learned the basics of music.  Towards the end of the school year, the students played for an Awards Banquet of Better Basics at the Botanical Gardens.

At the December Holiday concert of Embellishments at the Museum of Arts, the students played a special number, including a “Sing-A-Long” by the audience.

Below is a picture of three of the students playing at that concert:

This school year, Embellishments, again sponsored by Better Basics, is taking music into the Inglenook School, K-8, in Tarrant and twenty-two students are learning music by playing handchimes.  This group will play with Embellishments at its “Out of this World” Concert on April 25, 2 pm at the Museum of Art.  The name of the piece is “Rondo Borincano”.   The concert is free, with free parking at the Museum.
